Wade Beltramo was the featured speaker at the January 20th New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials forum.

The event entitled "Local Government Consolidatoin and Dissolution: Understanding the New New York Government Reorganization and Citizen Empowerment Act was held at the Orchard Park High School Auditorium.  It was co-sponsored by the Association of Erie County Governments and the Erie County Village Officials Association.

Beltrano said that the real problem for the high cost of living in New York State was as a result of State Government and that local governments have unfairly targetted by State officials and the media as the panacea for all of New York ills.  "Unfortunately the essential value of municipal government has been disregarded during this initiative."

About 150 people showed up for the event which was attended mostly by government officials. East Aurora is one of the larger municipalities that is considering dissolution and many feel that the petition process will be able to force a referendum sometime this year.
