Some of you may be aware of a young 14-year-old girl fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Union Road near the Aurora Expressway.  She was airlifted by Mercy Flight to the Erie County Medical Center. She had to have emergency brain surgery, then shortly after that she was brought back into surgery to have her spleen removed. Alyssa suffered severe head trauma & multiple broken bones and has been unconscious ever since.

Her parents Don and Kym have had to devote all of their time to taking care of their daughter.  They have taken turns sleeping next to Alyssa for the past 10 months.  Although still unconscious, she was allowed to go back to her home where she is under constant care. 

If you read through the Facebook page that gives update to her condition, you will see how difficult this has been for them.  She has touched many hearts throughout Western New York.  There are several stories in there that you will find hard to get through.  Including a few where the hospital was starting to prepare the family for the worst.  Another that her recalls is of Alyssa waking up and looking potently into his eyes before falling into unconsciousness once again.

The motto that has been adopted by the over 10,000 people who watch her status is SSA which stands for Stay Strong Alyssa.

Her parents have been unable to work since the accident and they have gone through all of their savings and have no credit.  This makes it impossible for them to afford a sorely needed wheel chair van.

I know that the good people of East Aurora will find it in their hearts to help this young family with their struggles.

Please read a letter from the Kym and Don.   The folks in East Aurora have always been generous in helping those in need.  Please help this young family if you can.

This is a hard letter for our family to write. Being in a needy position and being unable to solve our own problems is a very hard place for us to be in. We would rather be in a position to help others and provide for their needs but life often makes turns that are unexpected. We all have a large support system that surrounds us called our family, friends and beliefs. It would cease to be called a support system if we refused to lean towards it; therefore we are going to try to quit standing alone on this one, and ask for some help.

I've never been one to beat around the bush, so here's the story: 

On May 12th Alyssa had her accident and Kym nor I haven't worked since that day. We have used up most of our savings and are at a crossroads. We know Alyssa will be home soon but we don't know when she will wake from her coma. We also don't know what will happen to her tomorrow but we know she lived threw one of the worst Head Trauma accidents that ECMC of Western New York has ever seen. She has made it this far and we want to give her every chance to live and experience life as long as she can and as often as she can.

We need two miracles at this point we can only HOPE for one and ASK for the other. After six months of praying and believing we still believe she can do this and we HOPE she does. As we have been scouring the internet and local dealers we have not been able to find a decent wheel chair van that fits our needs for less than $20,000. We ASK for this miracle of provision because have no credit, we have no money after bills, insurance, co pays, groceries and making a car payment would be very hard. This accident has literally turned our family upside down.

So I solicit your help and your prayers. Please pray for:

1. The miraculous provision of a wheelchair van for Alyssa.

God has always provided for our needs and we have always tried to pay-it-forward. He will often use PEOPLE through whom He brings about His provisions. I have seen the effect of the "I know somebody, who knows somebody, who knows the guy, who...." That is, even if I have not had the resources to help someone, I've known someone who could and passed that along. And so I ask you to pray:

2. That the people who HAVE the resources to help will find out about Alyssa's need, and be prompted, willing and able to help.

3. For the Lord's peace, wisdom and discernment for me in any decisions I need to make about all of this.

Thank you for being on the other end of cyberspace for us. I know God is BIGGER than this, and that He has many blessings in store for us.  Thank you for your prayers.
