The East Aurora Lady Blue Devils ended a season with a loss to top ranked Pioneer Thursday at the Flickenger Center. This was the first season after they moved up a class from B-2 to A-2 and faced tougher opposition throughout the season. The final score was 53-37 but there is no doubt that the coaches and parents were very proud of the Blue Devil squad.
The cards were stacked against them as they were facing perhaps the greatest female player in Western New York basketball history in Joelle Connelly. Indeed, Connelly dropped 28 points and pulled down 11 rebouds even though the Blue Devils collapsed on her every time she had the ball.
Jessie Tarantino led East Aurora by getting 13 points and 8 assissts.. Ashley Gallagher put in 9 points and had 11 rebounds.
Head coach Chris Koselny was extremely proud of his team and told the Buffalo News "I think we played absultely great. I thought we played as hard as we could."
The Blue Devils ended their first season in the Class A division with an outstanding 18-5 overall record.
