Monday's Town Hall meeting staged by the East Aurora Village Board turned out as many had expected. Many were against changing the current plan to remove the parking lane in front of the Roycroft and many want the plan changed to leave the parking lane in place.
In total, 20 spoke out in favor of keeping the current plan and 12 were against it.
The board may vote at some point on rescinding the January 2007 vote which approved the removal of the parking lane which will allow for a sidewalk and some green space to be added in its place.
Mayor Crook noted that his main concern is ensuring that the Main Street construction project moves forward and that any possible long term delays because of a reversal of the original decision would far outweigh the impact of the parking lane issue.
The Fire Department was there and spoke out against the current plan and said they were concerned about response time. However those in support of the plan noted that it has twice been determined safe by the New York State Department of Transportation and that they are the experts on road architecture and safety.
